JDRF Charity Challenge

Support the JDRF Charity Challenge

Pip, Ray, Darren & JuliaFour intrepid triathletes from West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club have set themselves an epic challenge in order to raise funds for JDRF, a charity committed to eradicating Type 1 Diabetes, particularly for children of which over 29,000 live with the condition in the UK alone.

The four, Husband and wife team of Ray and Julia Reeves and club mates Pip Moore and Darren Sharman (pictured) will strive to complete 1000km (623 miles) on turbo trainers at the Club HQ, Shakers Lane in Bury St. Edmunds on Saturday 20th February.

Said Ray, who is organising the event: “Our target is to complete 1000km in 12 hours continuous cycling beginning at 8am and only finishing when we have hit that target! We’ll be cycling in pairs in relay, with each pair taking shifts in the saddle of 1 hour duration. To complete our challenge, we will need to ride at an average speed of 27 miles per hour!”

“The work that JDRF does is very important to our family” continued Julie, “especially as our 2-year-old grandson has the condition, as do a number of our club mates, and we hope to do all we can to raise awareness and funds to allow research and development into the condition to continue”

The group has set up a JustGiving page, https://www.justgiving.com/WSW-type1 to which donations can be made.

“We’re all looking forward to the challenge “said Ray “and we look forward to friends and supporters dropping by to cheer us on at the club throughout the day, and to enjoy some delicious diabetic cake for a donation!”
