Sprinting talk

Monday 21st February, 7.30pm. WSW HQ, Shakers Lane BSE

Whether you are a road rider, cyclo-cross rider, track cyclist or sportive rider, improving your sprint technique and ability could significantly enhance your performance.

During this talk, aspects of sprinting are explored:

  • Sprinting physiology
  • Muscle types, ATP
  • Sprinting situations and scenarios
  • Track cycling, road cycling etc.
  • Physical preparation and training
  • Psychological preparation
  • Bike setup
  • Tactics and sprinting
  • Video analysis of a variety of sprinting situations

There will be plenty of time for discussion and questions. Everyone welcome.

About the speaker

Ian Pettitt has been a WSW member since 1993 and was National Junior Track Sprint bronze medallist in 1995, Divisional Youth Criterium Champion and has trained with the National Track Cycling squad. He has ridden in criteriums in Belgium, won senior hard and grass track races and has represented the East Division in the National Track League Championships.

He graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2000, completing a Bsc in Sport Science.

  • The West Suffolk Wheelers cycling club was formed in 1922 and is based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We have a good cross-section of cycling on offer to welcome new and experienced cyclists alike. If you wish to learn bike handling skills for on and/or off-road cycling our members have the knowledge and experience to teach you. The Club is proud of it's development work with young people, and we have coaches to guide new cyclists in their training. We are active in all areas of cycling including: Road Racing, Time Trials, Track Racing, Club Runs,Touring, Audax, Sportive, Mountain Biking and Cyclo-cross. Members also compete in triathlon competitions; the Club is recently affiliated to Triathlon England, and new triathlete members are welcomed
