Knowler Nails It!

This week young Charlie Knowler grabs the headline for his superb win in the Under 10 race at the very tough Eastern Cross League’s Mistley CycloCross event on Sunday. He made a great start and got to the front of the race on lap two, but was overhauled by Mark Lightfoot of CC Ashwell. Charlie then came back to retake the lead in the last corner to clinch his first ever CX victory. Harley Gregory again rode well to 9th place, (best Under 8), with Victoria Asker 14th and Grace Whitwell 22nd.

Impressive Finish from Paul Watson

12 members of West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club took part in the East & South East Regional Cyclo Cross Championships, held at a cold and windy Trinity Park Ipswich on the 8th December.

On a largely fast and flat course surrounding a more technical middle section which better suited the quicker riders, the stand out performance of the afternoon for the club was Paul Watson racing in the male vets 50-59 age category who finished impressively for 8th

Cyclo Cross - Charlie Knowler’s Fine Form Continues

Another fine race from West Suffolk Wheeler & Triathlon Club member Charlie Knowler at the Grafham Water circuit in Cambridgeshire on the 30th November saw him race powerfully to 3rd in the Under 10 category, leading home clubmates Harley Gregory (13th) and Victoria Asker (19th). In the overall rankings, Charlie sits a very commendable 6th with 3 races left in the series.

Mike Bowen wins again!

Claiming his second win of the season Mike Bowen pipped Phil Buick to the line in the Vets race at the Fakenham Cyclo Cross at Hempton on Sunday 17th November. This now puts Mike in the lead in the League standings In the same race.

Simon Elsworth achieved his best result so far in 31st, with Adi Grimwood 34th, Barry Denny 41st (and in the money as best over 60!), Ian Mortlock 46th and Darren Baker 49th. Stephen and Lesley Linden made their cross debut at this meeting which uses the most exciting and demanding course in the series, but gamely battled through, with Stephen coming home in 54th and Lesley 10th in the Women’s category.

New Cyclo-Cross Coaching Sessions - fundamentals of cross!

With the Cyclo-Cross season well underway, it’s still not too late to join in or polish your current techniques. Recently qualified BC Level 2 Cyclo-Cross Coach, Paul Barry is running a short series of Saturday morning coaching sessions aimed at those new to the sport or intermediate riders looking to make improvements.

  • Ideal for beginner or intermediate riders
  • Master the fundamental skills of cyclo-cross
  • Focus on having fun and feeling confident on the bike!

This sessions will cover all the fundamental skills of cyclo-cross.

  • The West Suffolk Wheelers cycling club was formed in 1922 and is based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We have a good cross-section of cycling on offer to welcome new and experienced cyclists alike.
