Paul Watson’s Superb Run Continues

16 members of West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club travelled to Bungay on the 15th December for the final cyclo cross race before Christmas. In a marked change from the previous week’s relatively flat and fast course, the Broome Heath course was a testing and energy sapping 1.6mile loop with a middle section containing no less than 4 steep ascents which required riders to dismount and run whilst carrying their bikes over their shoulders over and up steep slopes of deep sand or earth.

The combined Women’s/Male Veteran’s race was won by Richard Muchmore, riding for Revel Outdoors of Bury St. Edmunds, with Mike Bowen first Wheeler home in 5th overall. Continuing his superb run of form, Paul Watson finished impressively for 11th.

Junior club members again performed very well, with Charlie Knowler highest placed in the Under 10 category at 4th. He was followed by club mates Harley Gregory (8th) Victoria Asker (12th) and Grace Whitwell (14th). Matt Asker was a commendable 21st in the youth race. In the under 12 race, Thomas Macro finished solidly for 15th, followed by Matthew Whitwell (18th) and Lianna Denny (23rd).

Richard Stiff and Matt Denny will both be pleased with 40th and 45th respectively in the senior race.

The Male Veteran’s group was made up by Ian Mortlock (37th) Barry Denny (50th), Darren Baker (55th) and David Griggs (61st). Adi Grimwood withdrew due to mechanical issues.

With 2 races left, the club lie in 9th position overall.
