Weekend Tri Results

Another great weekend for the West Suffolk Wheelers triathletes, who earned some great positions and a couple of trophies along the way.  The juniors were in action at the North Norfolk Triathlon and Alice Maguire, on exemplary form took 1st place overall.  An impressive race saw Maguire 3rd out of the 300m pool swim, take the lead on the 8 kilometre cycle and finish off with an excellent run over the 2.4 kilometre course.  Johan Hasselder, also on terrific form, took second place in Tri Star 1 group.  However with the winner being a non club athlete, Hasselder took the maximum points for the league. Both Hasselder and Maguire are looking in a strong position to finish in the top three in the Eastern Region League.

In the Senior section Lee Sole and Adrian Barbrooke were competing at the Walden Sprint Tri in Saffron Walden.  A tough course by sprint triathlon standards comprising of a 750m pool swim, two laps of a particularly undulating 12.5km cycle circuit and a 5km run with an energy sapping hill climb as soon as they were out of the saddle.  It wasn’t just the course they had to battle though as by the time they had reached the run the sun was out in full force.  Sole, having not long returned from injury, had a great result finishing 18th overall and 10th in age group in a time of 1:23:27.  Barbrooke continued his season’s fine start at Dambuster with 6th overall and his first age group victory in a time of 1:19:26, finishing over 5 minutes ahead of his age group’s second place man.

A number of the Seniors are competing at the Norwich Triathlon this coming weekend which, due to high levels of blue green algae has been changed to a Duathlon with a 5km run replacing the swim leg.  The Juniors are also battling it out in Norwich this weekend at the Norwich Junior Tri.
