ECCA 12 hour time trial - Sunday 21st August 2011

West Suffolk Wheeler/Triathlon club members Tony Panting and Jonathan Howe took part in the ECCA 12 hour on Sunday.  Tony rode as a regular participant and seemed to have a really good ride, ably supported by Richard "Tom Tom" Seggar.   Jonathan was riding his first 12 hour time trial, to attempt to break the 74 year old club record for 200 miles in the process.

Here is an extract from the results sheet (the event having been won by Nik Bowdler in a massive 299.95 miles (and our friend Mark P Nut Arnold rode 275 miles):

24   Jonathan Howe  -  West Suffolk Whrs    -  221.230  - 2:14:37  -  4:39:35
25   Roel Jansen        -  Westerley CC           -  218.210  -  2:26:04  -  5:06:45
26   Ian Peacock        -  Harrogate Nova CC  -  217.350  -  2:26:50  -  4:57:29
27   Tony Panting       -  West Suffolk Whrs   -  215.710  -  2:27:27  -  5:03:56

This shows distance covered in 12 hours; and times to 50 and 100 miles.   Jonathan covered 200 miles in 10 hours 21 minutes, and was most grateful for official club timekeeper Geoff Byne for being present to count the miles and compute the precise spot of 200 miles on the course, which happened to fall right on the main carriageway of the A11 not far from the start point (Great Chesterton).     This beats the former club record of 10 hours 45 minutes set by L Cornell in 1937.

Jonathan's catchphrase this season has been "Never again", and he was heard to mutter these words several times, both during and after the ride.
