Peter Heath East-West ride

The fine warm weather started on day one and followed me North, with just 2 hours rain the whole tour. In these conditions our countryside is amongst the best in the world and the route went through some of the most scenic, with hills and great views aplenty. I met some good people, including the 'Ride a Bike' shop in Barton on Humber who fixed my bike FOC and gave me a tenner for the charities, and the Yorkshire Landlady who drove me to the best pub in the area some miles distant for a meal and picked me up when I rang to say I was ready!! Larry and Mary Smith made me very welcome in the Lincs Wolds, with superb food, wine and accommodation,- they have a lovely home. They even fixed me up with an osteopath and Larry drove me into Louth for the treatment. This rescued the tour from a premature end and enabled me to keep going.Such instant kindness was a feature of the whole tour and I was humbled by such lovely people.....they made the ride special.

The Isle of Mull was the highlight of the trip and I must return with Gill. I had great views of the huge white-tailed sea eagle, more distant views of golden eagles and close views of otters. With a host of other beautiful birds, some of the most stunning scenery, and proximity to other Hebridean Islands, Mull comes highly recommended. And the cycling is great too, with all the hills you need on quiet single track roads. To all WSW members who supported me a big thank you....I will be chasing you for the dosh soon.
Larry and Mary wish to be remembered to all who  know them. They now remain well after recent ill health and have immersed themselves in the local village scene...Larry is Chairman of the Parish Council and a regular church clock winder upper!! Mary's plantswoman talents have turned a large garden into a delight.
I will write a full report of the tour for the Wheeler....another great life-experience.
