CANCER RESEARCH CHARITY RIDE

Peter Heath is setting off from Lowestoft Ness in late May (28-05-2003) on a solo charity cycle ride which links this most easterly point on the mainland, to Ardnamurchan Point in Scotland, the most westerly point. The route is via the Lincolnshire Wolds, Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria, Gretna Green, Dumfries and Galloway, Arran, Kintyre, Mull and on to journey's end, the lighthouse on the Point.

I will be seeking sponsors to help raise funds for two cancer charities. Today, statistics suggest that one in three people in UK will die of cancer. I would think it a fair bet that anyone reading this will know of someone who has died from cancer, or suffered from it?s effects. It truly is the modern-day plague. And yet the battle against cancer is starting to make inroads, increasingly more cancer sufferers survive, their life is prolonged, or the quality improved. Lance Armstrong is the supreme example of what can be achieved in the face of seemingly unbeatable odds.

My charities are CLIC,- Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood and IMF,- International Myeloma Foundation which is based in Edinburgh and carries out research into multiple myeloma, an aggressive form of bone cancer.

I do hope that Club members will help me to support these worthwhile charities, every penny raised will be forwarded to the charities concerned. Can you help me to beat the £3567 I raised from the LE-JOG ride in 1997, I do hope so.    Thanks to all who will sponsor this fund raising effort.       Pete
