WSW Family Bike Ride Report

Our first WSW Family Bike Ride. Sunday 5th June 2011.

Me and one of my boys (Lewis) started riding with the Wheelers about a year ago and, we’ve not looked back, what a great club. We participate in various weekend rides and when we can, Time Trials too. . and yes Lewis, your young legs are faster than mine now J

Anyway, the “Family Bike Ride” what a great way of getting the rest of the family involved. When my daughter Gemma heard money was being raised for Marie Curie she was up for it with her fiancé Dean too. My other son, Kieran, even managed to over come his fear of men in lycra, just the once for this time only!

And my wife Susie, revved up the food mixer to max and cakes and chocolate brownies came forth, ready for the cyclists at the end of the ride.

So, the day arrives and the Elson crew assembled at the WSW club house. Its windy, but the suns out yeah-hey !

Off we go at 10:30 and meet more riders at Moreton Hall. Its great to see a good turn out. There must have been about 60 cyclists with a whole mix of different ages and abilities. Tiny tots too on bike seats and trailers. Barry and Adi call out instructions to the riders and we all set off. Three different routes, long, medium or short. All meet at Bradfield for tea and cake , yum yum ..

We took the medium route and after not too long were out in the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Good weather, out cycling , through the fields and trees, chatting away with friends and family, what more could you ask for ??……….Tea and cakes of course !

After an hour or so, we arrive at Bradfield St George village hall. We’d like to send a huge thanks to everyone who provided such good refreshments. A superb spread of home made cakes, help yourselves and make a small contribution in the pot towards Marie Currie, (a fantastic charity that has helped and supported our family in the past)

Fully refreshed, we set off home, a little slower this time, well, the cakes were a bit too good don’t-you-know J It was a good family day, and money was raised for a very good cause, well done the Wheelers!

Mmm, now I must speak to Peter S W, his gran apparently made the lemon sponge cake ..
