13th September Kayenta

Mark and I left Flagstaff at 7.30 heading for Tuba City on 89 and 160. Roads were big, smooth and seemed to be down hill for miles. Wind in our favour too! Our pattern so far is breakfast at about 20 miles but today no restaurant or cafe so garage at 30 miles had to do. Muffin, chocolate and loads of coffee got us all the way through to Tuba City at 80 miles. Made very good time, dinner at 2.00pm was huge pizza then decided to carry on to the next town with a motel, which was about 71 miles away. Wind still with us but turned out that it wasn't down hill all the way! Rolling roads were still very smooth and our pace was good. Scenery was stunning for the whole trip today, through Navajo Reservation, which means no beer at the Inn! We got the last room in town at Monument Valley Inn, $265 for the night! Average speed 18 for 155 miles (we did 4 miles looking for a cheaper motel!). Harriet, Adam and Glynn caught up with us in the car, joining us at about 9.00. Adam has driven something like 650 miles to get here. Luxury for us tomorrow not having to carry our stuff. Today was a good day.
