The West Stow Mountain Bike Challenge

Sunday 14 December 2008

This is a new event, being promoted by the West Suffolk Wheelers, as part of British Cycling’s Everyday Cycling programme. Download an entry form here.

It is a non-competitive event, to be ridden at your own pace and with a choice of routes and distances. They all start and finish at the West Stow Country Park , Icklingham Road, West Stow, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP28 6HG home of the reconstructed Anglo-Saxon Village and complete with an excellent visitor centre, café and toilet facilities.
(Five miles north of Bury St Edmunds, just off the A1101).

The routes are all largely off-road, comprising Bridleways and Byways and include the ancient Icknield Way Path. The countryside is not hilly, but the routes could be quite demanding in December, comprising forest tracks and open heath-land sections. One route is approximately 10 miles, another covers 22 miles and there is a 32 mile option for the fittest riders.

The routes will all be well marked and marshalled, with a recovery service for anyone that is unable to finish the route. All riders will be provided with a number, route map, energy bar and other goodies. Entries can be made prior the event either by downloading an entry form and posting in to us with your cheque, or by entering online on www.everydaycycling.com . We will also be accepting entries on the day at a slightly increased fee.

All riders are required to wear helmets, and riders under the age of 16 need to ride with a nominated adult. All riders under 18 need written parental consent.

The event will start at 9.00am with the long distance participants going off first, followed by those doing the other distances. Registration and signing on will open at 7.30 a.m.

Entry in advance are Adults £10   Under 16 £6
Entry on the day are Adults £12   Under 16 £8
