The club’s Track Day at Welwyn’s Gosling Park Velodrome went well on Saturday May 26. We had four experienced trackies, five newcoming youngsters and three adult first timers as well as Brian Alldis showing a good turn of speed on his hand bike. Neville Pettitt, ably assisted by David Ballam and Hannah Brookman conducted the proceedings to a session plan that we have used previously. Nine of our party hired bikes and after sorting these for size they were very soon getting to grips with fixed wheel and no brakes, initially on the running track and within no time on the banked tarmac track.
We had an action packed two hours which included ‘chase downs’, timed laps, a ‘mock race’ over six laps and an Italian Pursuit involving all riders.
The riders were Ian Pettitt, father and son James and Sam Asker, Cameron and Fraser Elsworth and their Dad Simon, Mark Saunders, brothers Will and Behn Mapus-Smith, Alan Trolove, Barry Denny, Ed Ballam and Brian Alldis.
Everyone lived to tell the tale, and seemed to enjoy the exercise and the excellent weather.
Who would be game for another session in a few weeks time, early July perhaps?
