It’s the closed season for most competitors, but the crossers have been out most weekends, and Alan Trolove recently competed in the Future Stars at the second Revolution meeting of the season at the Manchester Velodrome ~ highlights of which were shown on ITV4 last Monday, with a certain Mark Cavendish winning the Elite Scratch race. Alan rode to sixth place in the Devil, 13th in the Points race and 15thin the Scratch race. This lifts him to 12th in the Future Stars League and he is hoping to be invited back for Rounds 3 and 4 on January 7 and 28 respectively.
As regards CycloCross we rode a new course at Grafham Water near Huntingdon on November 13, and the very bumpy surface made riding very tiring. Richard Muchmore excelled with 4th in the Vets, followed by Mike Bowen 10th, Barry Denny 32nd, Paul Barry 42nd, with Richard Stiff 28th in the Jnr/Snr race.
November 20th we rode at Hempton, near Fakenham on their exciting course of woodland and bomb-holes. Richard Muchmore and Mike Bowen again did us proud in the Vets, in 3rd and 6th respectively, with Barry Denny and Paul Barry 32nd and 42nd. Richard Stiff was 41stin an enlarged field in the Jnr/Snr event.
26 November 2011. There were five West Suffolk Wheelers in action at the cyclo-cross meeting at Redgrave this afternoon. Most riders found the grassy non-technical course pretty tough going. However, it didn’t seem to affect Mike Bowen too badly as he continued his run of excellent results finishing 5th in the Veterans race and currently lies in 6th position overall in the league standings. In the same race, Paul Barry finished 43rd closely followed by Barry Denny in 44th with Adi Grimwood arriving in 52nd place. In the Seniors race, Matt Eaglen finished 43rd. In the Club classification, West Suffolk Wheelers currently lie in 9th position with two rounds to go.
