West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club competed in the final event of the Eastern cylco Cross League Season, the Team Championships held at Mistley on the River Stour on Sunday.

On a notoriously hilly, challenging and extremely windy course clubs competed in teams of 2/3.

Stand out performances of the day came from Nicole Gregory and Jo Denny in the Women’s Team Race held over 40 minutes. Both are novices and in their first season at cyclo cross, and both rode tenaciously over a very demanding course against tough competition to be rewarded with 2^nd Best Women’s team Club Prize. A superb effort.

Their club mates were well represented amongst top 3 team finishes elsewhere on the energy sapping course. Finishing off a very successful season’s racing, Sam Asker (riding with Great Yarmouth in a composite team) helped his team to finish 3^rd in the under 16 category and a fine 9^th individual overall. Brother Matt placed 35^th in the same race with Fraser Elsworth 40^th.

In the senior race, Mike Bowen teamed up with local rider Richard Muchmore in another composite team, with Richard powering around to finish 1^st overall followed by Mike in 3^rd to earn 1^st team placing.

In the same race, both Malcolm MacFarlane and Adrian Grimwood suffered identical mechanical problems, Malcolm managed to finish (55^th) whilst Adrian was forced to retire. Another gutsy performance from Paul Watson saw him finish 10^th overall.

Meanwhile Matt Denny (50^th), James Asker (53^rd) and newbie debutante Jeremy Waterson (54^th) performed well in the seniors. Jeremy suffered a similar catastrophic mechanical to Adrian and Malcom, but with typical grim determination forced himself to finish. He will look forward to returning in September. Rounding off the event, Thomas Macro (13^th) and Lianna Denny (27^th) rode with great enthusiasm in the Under 12 race and in the Under 10 race, Harley Gregory (12^th overall and 1^st Under 8), Oliver Griggs (16^th) and Alfie Simpson (19^th) will be pleased with their efforts.
