The West Suffolk Cyclo Crossers were back in action

The West Suffolk Cyclo Crossers were back in action last weekend, riding in the penultimate League meeting of the season at Broome Heath, near Bungay. It was certainly the coldest meeting so far, with the sand-pit and woods course covered in white frost, and very slippery in places. There were just five us, all in the Vets (over 40s) event, and we mostly came away disappointed. Mike Bowen got the best result in eighth place, but beaten in a sprint finish by ever-green Tim Butler. Richard Muchmore was next home in thirteenth place, complaining of having ‘no legs’ ~ that’s always a disadvantage!  Barry Denny was next home, starting OK but losing places every lap, finishing 46th. Paul Barry was catching him, as he did at Redgrave, but didn’t quite get there, in 52nd. Adrian Grimwood was probably the most cheerful, in that he ‘wasn’t going quite as badly as recently’ ~ his words, not mine ~ finishing 56th. Final meeting of the league is at the excellent Mistley course, but not until January 22.

Meanwhile the National Championships take place at Christchurch Park in Ipswich on Jan 6 and 7 ~ that should really be worth watching with the country’s best riders in action.

And then, on Saturday February 4th, we have the Inter Club Cyclo Cross, which we are promoting at King Edward VI School. We are looking for three riders to represent the club in each race (Under 12, Under 16, Vets/Ladies and Snr/Jnrs). We will also be needing loads of club members to help set up the course the day before, and to marshal and help out at the event, and clear up afterwards.
