'Cross: Snetterton Report

Fraser Elsworth 4th Snetterton (photo James Asker)The penultimate League meeting of the season took place at a new venue at The World Horse Welfare at Snetterton.

West Suffolk Wheelers and Tri were again very well represented on a surprisingly dry and technical course, which included grassy banks, tricky turns and an indoor arena section with jumps!!

In the vets race Mike Bowen rode well to gain third place, putting him in silver medal position in the league with Richard Muchmore fourth, and with one more score to count at our event in January still in contention for a League podium. Adrian Grimwood had his best ride so far this season despite coming to grief three times (!) finishing 30th, with Darren Baker gaining experience and coming home 40th.

Matt Asker raced in the Under 16 race over the full course, finishing a creditable 20th (9th U14) in only his second race.

We had four riders in the Under 12 race which used a shortened but still challenging course. Fraser Elsworth recorded another good result in fourth, with Sam Asker a game fifth, after losing places caused by a heavy crash in the arena. Matt Whitwell rode with his customary enthusiasm to 24th (5th U10), and Victoria Asker made a good debut finishing 39th (5th girl).

We still have a reluctance for Senior riders to join in the fun with Richard Stiff again our only representative in the Junior/Senior race which lasts 60 long minutes and the competition is fierce. He finished 46th, just ahead of Mildenhall’s Matthew Mantle and Iceni Velo’s Chris Guy and a dozen or more others.

Our Cross on Jan 19 is the final meeting of the league and should see some exciting dices. Come and help us run it and watch the action. One meeting follows ours and that is the inter-team event, where we need good representation ~ why not join us?
