The Secret Nuclear Bunker is still secret as far one popular satellite navigation system is concerned! Running a bit late to begin with, I arrived with just enough time to get my bike off the car, register and start a practice/reconnaissance lap.  I arrived back at the start just as the Grand Vets were being gridded so no time to go back to the car to replenish my drinks bottle ... less than ideal on such a hot day.

There were only two members involved in the afternoon races, myself and Malcolm Borg. The circuit was pretty much bone dry clay which was crumbling in the heat  and made for a loose surface on most of the corners. There were two technical sections which had B lines (chicken runs). On lap 3, I messed up the first technical section due to hesitating and loosing concentration on the descent to the mini drop-off and went in with too much weight forward. Probably to the disappointment of some of the gathered crowd, I narrowly avoided going over the handlebars into a rather unsavoury little pond.  Apart from that, it was pretty uneventful and more a case of energy management and enjoying the course.  I finished 16^th from 22 riders in the Grand Veteran race.  Meanwhile, Malcolm produced  his best performance of the season in the Masters, finishing 7^th.

Earlier in the day, Rhys Holland-Jones also produced his best performance in the series so far finishing 7^th from 15 riders.  In the Youth race, new member Ross McKenzie making a promising debut finished 15^th just ahead of Robin Lines in 17^th.

Round 6 is on Sunday, 4^th August at Hinchingbrooke  Country Part,  Cambridgeshire.
