Seven members of West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club raced in the first round of Mud Sweat & Gears Mountain bike series on Sunday. Held over a fast and largely flat course in Rendlesham Forest, but with enough technical challenges, including what was billed as the largest crater in the east region, to test bike handling skills.
Competing in the Youth Male category (Under 16), Robin Lines raced well to finish in 5th place.
In the Juvenile Male category (Under 14), both Sam Asker and Rhys Holland-Jones continued to build on their previous good form. Sam finished an excellent 3rd in only his third ever mountain bike race with Rhys not too far behind in 5th.
Malcolm Borg found the change from his usual endurance events to shorter racing testing, but still finished 27th in the Sport Male category.
In the Open Male category, Dick Lines and Richard Holland-Jones both completed 3 laps. Dick finished in 62nd place with Richard not too far behind in 70th.
Finally, Paul Watson produced another great performance to finish impressively in 7th in the Grand Vet Male category.
