Iain Hibbert continued to improve in his return to cycling by taking 8th place in Sunday's Mid Suffolk Road Race, held as part of the Eastern Road Race League. The Stowmarket & District CC promotion, which attracted a full field of 60 3rd and 4th category riders, was held over 7 laps of a testing circuit near Somersham, covering 48 miles.
Although a strong headwind on the flatter part of the circuit meant that any breakaway was doomed to fail, Iain rode strongly near the front of the bunch over the main hill ensuring that any splits were covered. As expected, however, the race concluded with a bunch sprint up and over the top of the main hill on the course. Looking for a top-three position Iain crested the hill in 4th place, but faded in the final 100 metres to cross the line in 8th, 2 seconds behind race winner Matt Badell of CC Luton.
