For the first time since 1996, the West Suffolk Wheelers promoted an open Hill Climb time trial. This is one of the most specialised types of cycle racing, requiring the riders to be able to start fast, maintain this speed for 2 minutes before sprinting for the finish line. The bikes used are lightweight, specialist machines and gear choice and tactics can win or lose an event.
With the sun out and a tail wind up the climb, conditions couldn?t have been better for a good event and fast times. Although narrowly missing out on the overall prize, home club rider Richard Farrow smashed the WSW record for the hill by over 6 seconds, coming home in 1m 48.49s for second place.
