The Suffolk Cycle Race Series sponsored by Maglia Rosso got off to a great start on Wednesday 11th June.
There were 20 entries in the U14/U16 and these included Fabian Horrocks who led home the chasing group in determined fashion and young Fraser Elsworth, riding well after some health problems.
Thirty six riders contested the 30 minute Go Race event for new racers, and Darren Baker just managed to sign on with 30 seconds to spare. His recent touring in Nova Scotia had dulled his speed, but he enjoyed his road race debut. Dermot O’Riordan rode very well in the main group all race but didn’t feature in the manic 30up sprint finish.
We had no representatives in the Women’s race, but had loads in the main E1234 event, which saw riders sent off in three ability groups about a minute apart. Tom Smith and Andy Brinkley stayed in the lead group throughout the race even when caught by the E12 riders, which is when Matt Denny lost contact with that group and joined the midfielders including Richard Stiff, Steve Newman, Malcolm Bourg and Matt Eaglen. They all managed to hold in well in the bunch, but eventually lost a lap to the quickest group on the circuit. The race eventually ended in a sprint finish with Keiran Brady just getting the better of Hugo Robinson. Richard Leeming and Richard Sherman from Maglia Rosso both made their road race debuts in this main race and survived, ready for another go next week.
This was the first of a series of six consecutive Wednesday evening events. Trinity Park Suffolk Show Ground.
U14/U16 and Go Race Adults at 6.50 with men and women E1234s at 7.30. Entries on the night only. Get there about an hour early to get signed on and warmed up.
