Good Ride at Hogg Hill

Young Will Mapus-Smith made his racing debut last year in the Under 14s at the Ixworth crits and had a couple of other outings in which he showed good promise. Since then he has been a regular on the Sunday Expresso club runs, and some Wednesdays during school holidays. He as also been following a tough training schedule during the winter months whilst away at boarding school, making good use of his turbo.. Last Saturday he had his first outing of the season at the Hogg Hill circuit at Redbridge, now as a first year under 16. He rode well in the very competitive pack for 40 minutes at an average speed of 22.5mph, just fading in the last lap as the pace at the front picked up, but finished a creditable 18th out of 40 odd starters. Good ride ~ there’s more to come!

Will has now been joined in the club by his brother Behn, who was out on last week’s club run. These young riders ~ indeed all our young riders ~ need our support, advice and encouragement. They represent the future of the club and cycling in general.
