MEMBERS ARE RACING

It is good to report that we have a strong contingent out there competing in circuit races this year.

The Lotus Race League at Hethel has now been running for about 6 weeks every Wednesday evening and most weeks West Suffolk have been well represented. Previous protagonists Adrian Grimwood, Steve Newman, Alan Trolove and Richard Stiff have been joined by Matt Eaglen, Jeremy Waterson and Tom Cahill-Smith with Lee Sturman making a comeback and riding as strongly as he ever did. Alan has figured in the results most weeks, with Tom and Lee also making their presence felt in the action. In addition to the main race of one hour’s duration there’s also a 30 minute Go Race for ‘novices’ and 4th cats (and old boys) and I can personally testify that these are still quite quick with race averages over 24mph.

Also now under way is the Ipswich Cycle Race Series at Trinity Park Showground also on Wednesday evenings. Entries are taken on the night at these events, also comprising a novice Go Race event of 30 minutes and a main race of one hour, both normally run on a handicap basis on varying circuits each week. At the opening event Behn Mapus-Smith made a great debut finishing 9th in the Go Race event. In the main race Matt Eaglen rode well in a midfield group in the main race, whilst Alan Trolove was participating in a six-man scratch group which made up a huge deficit to catch the main bunch with one lap to go, and finished 5th in the sprint, which was won by Elite category Dominic Schills.

I shall be attending all the remaining Ipswich series wearing my commentators hat, so anyone wanting lift please ring me or if you want any more details.
