British Triathlon Sprint Championships and World Qualifier

Anne Fish competed in the Big Cow British Triathlon Sprint Championships and World Qualifier on Sunday.  It all started well with a good swim and exit into T1 but then Anne got the wetsuit zip stuck half way down and could not get her arms out.  I saw her frantically tugging at the arms and asked a marshall to rescue her.  In fact just as he was explaining that he was not allowed to she escaped loosing maybe 2 minutes, not good on a Sprint Tri.  Anyway off she went and did a very respectible cycle coming off the bike in 4th place in her age group.  I shouted encouragement at the start of the run as I was aware of others in her age group not too far ahead.  Anyway she picked off the 3rd placed lady with 200 metres to go and picked up the Bronze Medal.  She was a minute and a half off 1st and 2nd leaving her thinking she could have been in contention had it not been for the wet suit jamming the zip.  On close inspection post race we think there is a manufacturing fault in her new wetsuit and are contacting the manufacturers.

So Bronze Medal, posted on BT website, plus a place in the World Age Group Championships in Budapest in September.

East Essex Junior Triathlon

This weekend was the East Essex Junior Triathlon, held at South Woodham Ferrers. The Wheelers had 2 entrants - Johan Hasselder (age 9) in the Tristar 1 category for 9/10 year olds, where he finished 10th out of 23 competitors, with a new swim PB by 30 seconds! It was his first time doing a triathlon of this distance, and he finished strongly on the run, suggesting potential for higher rankings in future races. In the Tristar 3 category for 13/14 year olds, Alice Maguire came 4th.She had a really good cycle and pulled back from 11th (after swim) to third and then just lost a place in the run but only 1 min between 1st and 4th place and then a big gap after that   She is competing again this week in the North Norfolk Junior triathlon.

BRAINTREE TRI

Four of us competed in the Braintree Tri today (6 June) on an undulating
bike course made up of hills, shingle, twist and turns, and the run wasn't much
different either!
