Off Road Duathlon - Thursday 27th September

Following the success of the junior off road duathlon back in July we thought that we might do it all over again.

As last time, the event is designed to be a training session for the juniors, but with parents also being encouraged to join in and have a go. However we are hoping to open up participation even further this time to allow other seniors from the Club to take part (numbers permitting, with juniors taking priority).

The date for this event will be Thursday 27th September (in lieu of the standard Junior Triathlon training session). Currently the venue for the event is planned to be, as it was last time, in Wetherden (just the other side of Elmswell, towards Stowmarket). Registration from 5:30pm, start time 6pm onwards.

The course will be similar to that used last time, although the run lap will be longer (600m), and if any seniors wish we can add a further 3km loop to their bike course - this will entail some limited use of very quiet public roads, but the juniors will be maintained off road (600m lap) as they were last time. The course is suitable for mountain, or cyclo cross bikes, not road bikes. The run/bike/run distances will therefore be as follows:-

Tristar Starts (8 yrs old):- Run 600m, bike 600m, run 600m - ie 1 lap, 1 lap, 1 lap

Tristar 1 (9&10 yrs old):- Run 1200m, bike 1800m, run 600m - ie 2 laps, 3 laps, 1 lap

Tristar 2 (11&12 yrs old):- Run 1800m, bike 2400m, run 1200m - ie 3 laps, 4 laps, 2 laps

Tristar 3 (13&14 yrs old):- Run 2400, bike 3000m, run 1200m - ie 4 laps, 5 laps, 2 laps

Youth (15&16 yrs old):- Run 3000m, bike 3600m, run 1800m - ie 5 laps, 6 laps, 3 laps

Seniors (17 yrs +):- As "Youth" plus optional, additional 3k on bike if desired

All ages are at 31st December this year, but for novices we can be flexible as we do not wish to put anyone off.

Parents have the option of choosing whichever distance they feel comfortable with - last time we had no "Youth" racing so parents chose to match the Tristar 3 distance, so don't feel pressured to "go long!" There will be a strict "no helmet, no race" policy for adults & children alike.

Please let us know if you wish to attend, rob@whitehousefarm.co.uk. We shall also need assistance with marshalling, lap counting, and time keeping - so any parents not joining in will hopefully be helping out, along with any other volunteers or bystanders.

There will be NO PRIZES - just the satisfaction of taking part and that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you know that you've done something worthwhile.
