I am driving down to Cesenatico  for the training camp and I have space in my car for 2 people inc bikes and luggage
I intend to leave early Friday 28th to arrive Saturday 29th mid afternoon with a night in a hotel on the way. It's 1100 miles so don't expect lots of sightseeing on the way!

Return trip will get back to Bury for Monday morning of the 6th, If anyone fancies a lift  let me know on
mark.dykes@hotmail.co.uk

If there are no takers for the drive then I will have an estate car that I can take people's bikes down  but priority on space for bikes will be given to those who are passengers.

Redgrave Cyclo Cross

21 members of West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club competed in the latest round of the Eastern Cyclo Cross League held at Redgrave near Diss on 23rd November. A timed age category race ridden over successive loops of a heavy going and challenging course suited the more powerful and stronger riders. The event began with the Under 10s, and yet another superb ride from Charlie Knowler who again finished 1st. Fine finishing saw club mates Victoria Asker home in 10th, Harley Gregory (16th) and Grace Whitwell (21st).

Next to go were the Under 12 group, led home by Thomas Macrow (13th), followed by Matthew Whitwell (24th) and Lianna Denny (26th).

The youth category saw a terrific ride from Sam Asker (9th), followed by brother Matt (22nd) and Fraser Elsworth (31st).

The combined women and 45/50 men age group contained the biggest club contingent. Another superb ride from Mike Bowen saw him home in 4th with Paul Watson riding powerfully for 19th. Strong riding saw a close group finish between Malcolm McFarlane (38), Simon Elsworth (39), Ian Mortlock (46th) and Adi Grimwood (51st). Dave Griggs made up several places to finish 63rd, whilst Lesley Linden in only her 2nd such race finished in a determined 70th.

Last to go were the seniors, and at an hour long a truly testing race over a surface that had deteriorated severely. Hard riding saw Richard Stiff home in 48th, John Brooks (52nd) and James Asker (54th).

Fundraising for St Nicholas Hospice

I am just emailing as I’m setting up an outdoor swimming fundraising event and was wondering if you would be able to put a team of participants together from the West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club. I am approaching you as I thought that some of your members might be new to triathlon training and could be looking for an event which will help them get used to swimming outdoors, in cold conditions.

Basically the event – The Big Chili Dip – will be a sponsored ten length (at least) swim in the outdoor pool at Moreton Hall Health Club on Sunday 23 February (i.e. very cold water!!). Swimmers will pay a £15 registration fee and will pledge to raise a minimum of £80. They will also receive fetching event swimming cap, a certificate and a hot bowl of chili once they’ve completed their swim.

If you think that this would be something your members would be interested in please let me know and I’ll be sure to send you some registration forms. I would be happy to come and give a talk to your club if you have regular meetings, just to familiarise members with the work of the Hospice and to encourage them to sign-up. You could even get a team together and treat it as a team-building exercise and a bit of fun, all for a good cause.

We need to raise £11,000 a day to continue to care for the people and families we treat so if you can support us we’d really appreciate it. Plus, who can say no to a bowl of chili-con-carne?!

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
