We have a thriving Triathlon section catering for all abilities from GB age groupers to complete novices, for adults and children. Membership gives access to a wide range of coached and group swimming, biking, and running sessions.Our various training sessions and events cover all 12 months of the year, come along and give us a try.

WSW & TC are affiliated to Triathlon England and new and existing club members are encouraged to join to take advantage of the benefits that membership offers.

Suffolk Winter Cross Country League

Run by Suffolk Athletics this is series of five races across Suffolk from Oct - March, There are points & trophies for all ages categories and overall club points to compete for. You have to wear club colours to run. Open to all abilities.

GO TRI

We arrange Go Tri races during the year which are very short distance events, great as an entry into multisports or to fund tune your transition or race practice. Races will be published when arranged.

Triathlon Round-up September 14th 2016

Mildenhall Triathlon - Sunday 28th Aug

Husband and wife triathlon duo Pip Moore & Helen Samuel were both in action at the inaugural Mildenhall triathlon on Sunday 28th Aug.  Pip completed the 300m swim, 12.84 mile bike & 5km run in a time of 59:14 to win his age group and overall 2nd place.  Wife Helen went one better to finish first female in a time of 1:09:40

Clackton Triathlon - Sunday 11th September

Myles Taylor came 5th in the super sprint distance with his first sea swim in choppy conditions, Oscar Woodward came 7th in Tristar 3 of the juniors duathlon and Jacob Taylor finished in Tristar 2 of the junior duathlon. It was a breezy day so quite hard. Well done all three.

St Neots Triathlon - Sunday 11th September

Meanwhile at St Neots Tom Betts (sprint distance) and Hannah McInroy (standard distance) kept the clubs 2017 trophy collection topped up.

Tom Betts - 750m swim / 23.9km bike / 5km run - 15:22; 49:30; 18:36 - overall time was 1:26 (33rd overall, 3rd in Age Group)

Hannah McInroy - 1500m swim / 45km bike / 10km run - 26:47; 1:25; 39:29 = 2:33 overall time (2nd female, 8th overall)

Vitruvion 70.3 (Half Ironman) – Sunday 11th September

Further afield Angela Joiner Handy took part in the Vitruvion 70.3 (Half Ironman) held at Rutland Water. 13th lady overall (39th last year) 2nd in age group and got national silver medal. Swim was 9 mins quicker in 43.48, bike 12 minutes quicker in 2.40 and run 9 mins quicker in 1.30. 5 hours and 38 seconds - ambition was sub 5 and nearly did it.

Ironman Weymouth – Sunday 11th September

Moving over to Ironman Weymouth Lee French and Aidan Dunn completed the full Ironman distance with Lee putting in a very respectable run time for the 26.2 miles. See below for the full breakdown:

Lee French - Swim: 1:12:39 / Bike 6:25:30 /Run 4:23:36 / Overall 12:14:52

Aidan Dunn - Swim: 1:06:27 / Bike 6:38:01 /Run 5:37:43 / Overall 13:35:14

also in Weymouth doing the 70.3 event Laura Brown completed the third of her three Half Ironman races for the season and capturing 6th in age group in a large field

Club Triathlon Championship Report

Festival of Triathlon at Fritton Lake as Wheelers' Triathletes Excel

Saturday & Sunday 18th & 19th of June 2016 - make a note of this date in years to come. It saw our first club triathlon championships held at Fritton Lake, Norfolk, and what a weekend it was.

Over the course of the weekend club members took part in four different races.

  • Saturday 8am - Sprint Triathlon
  • Saturday 3pm - Super Sprint Triathlon
  • Sunday 8am - Standard/Olympic Triathlon
  • Sunday 8am - Team relays over the standard distance

Mid June Triathlon Roundup

Plenty of action from our Triathletes over the last couple of weeks at Culford Sprint Triathlon and at the World Series in Leeds.

Culford Sprint Triathlon

Sunday 5th June Culford sprint triathlon 300m swim, bike 21km, run 4km

Darren Sharman went one better than last years 3rd place overall with a great 2nd place finishing in 55:28. Darren's splits were swim 5:06 - bike 33:12 - Run y 15:06.  Returning club member Kevin Murphy made it two WSW&TC finishers in the top ten with a 10th place finishing in 59:34. Michael Hatcher improved on his 2015 time with 1:09:07 and Simon Kitching came in at 1:11:47. Jill Wilshaw made it three age group wins this season with 1:11:47, closely followed by team mate Nicole Gregory 1:17:04.

World Series - Leeds

Last weekend (11th/12th June) things went up a gear with members competing against the big boys (and girls) at Staffordshire half iron 70.3 and the World Series in Leeds.

First up on Friday in Leeds Pip Moore competed in the Triathlon England Aquathlon, claiming a fabulous 2nd in age group. Swim 11:42 run 20:52. Saturday saw the open sprint race with Pip Moore going again along with wife Helen Samuel, a fellow age group triathlete. At the time of writing provisional results show Pip 2nd in age group and Helen 3rd in age group.

Sunday saw the standard distance race with Ray Reeves and Malcolm McFarlane flying the West Suffolk flag. Despite carrying a foot injury, Ray completed the swim and bike sections of the race in good times, Malcolm covered the course in 2:37:07.

Staffordshire Half Ironman 70.3

In Staffordshire Laura brown took part in the Ironman 70.3, recording a PB over the race distance in 5:48:41 - smashing her previous best of 6:06.

Wheeler Helen Samual represented Team GB at the ETU Triathlon European Championships in Lisbon on Friday 27th May 2016. Here is her report:

  • The West Suffolk Wheelers cycling club was formed in 1922 and is based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We have a good cross-section of cycling on offer to welcome new and experienced cyclists alike.
