Walden Tri 2016
Walden Triathlon Sunday 1st May 2016
Ray delivered and age group win, with an overall position of 28th.
Sunday was cold and blustery, but the sun shone and it warmed up nicely to almost perfect racing temp. Ray's 400m pool swim time was 7min49, including a 100m run to the timing mat. Finding his bike quickly Ray was happy with a good transition and set out onto a hilly 23k bike course through the Essex countryside. He was back to T2 in 43min for another good transition. The start of the run was uphill for just under 1k making it very tough on Ray's legs, but they eventually came back for a comparatively slow time of 23min, but OK given the course. That was shown by Ray's finish time of 1:17:04 a full two minutes in front of the next placed age grouper.
The presentation was by Para Olympian George Peasgood, who was also racing. Ray commented: "The whole event was very well run with the marshals all having a list of competitors names. Hearing your name called out in support made all the difference".
