We have a thriving Triathlon section catering for all abilities from GB age groupers to complete novices, for adults and children. Membership gives access to a wide range of coached and group swimming, biking, and running sessions.Our various training sessions and events cover all 12 months of the year, come along and give us a try.

WSW & TC are affiliated to Triathlon England and new and existing club members are encouraged to join to take advantage of the benefits that membership offers.

Suffolk Winter Cross Country League

Run by Suffolk Athletics this is series of five races across Suffolk from Oct - March, There are points & trophies for all ages categories and overall club points to compete for. You have to wear club colours to run. Open to all abilities.

GO TRI

We arrange Go Tri races during the year which are very short distance events, great as an entry into multisports or to fund tune your transition or race practice. Races will be published when arranged.

Go Tri Rougham Duathlon2

Friday evening took us back to Rougham Primary school for the second Duathlon of the series.

Word must be spreading, as we have seen ever increasing number of entrants for the GO Tri races.

Over all winner and new course record holder in a fast time of 22:42 was Keith Marra, with George Morris in 2nd and Darren Sharman 3rd all WSW members. It was also good to see so many novice entries and people having a go.

Esther reigns supreme in Kitzbuhel

WSW&T club member Esther Colman exceeded her own high standards at the European Triathlon Union’s European Championships held in the picturesque town of Kitzbuhel in the Austrian Tyrol on Sunday.

Competing in the female 18-19 Age Group Olympic Distance, Esther faced an open water swim of 1500m around the scenic Lake Swarzee, followed by a tough 39.4km bike section around hills surrounding the lake, and culminating in a 9.6km road race section.

Esther, having excelled in pre event competitions in the swim sections, her best discipline, stormed the 1500m swim in 0023:39. Her transition 1 time of 03:50 was followed by a bike time of 1:36:11 and t2 of 02:27. Her final run time of 49:32 gave an overall time of 2:55:37 and a very well deserved gold finish.

 

Go Tri Rougham Triathlon

WSW&T club hosted the third Go Tri race of the season, a mini distance triathlon designed to encourage new and novice athletes to the sport of triathlon.

Held on the 20th June at Rougham School, the event began with the junior events of Tri Star 1. A swim of …m, followed by a bike ride of….km and finished off with a run of ….km faced the junior age group. Winner was Stu Adams in 19:33.

Other results: Tom V ..20:56; Tom C 22:22; George P 22:46; Jacob 24:46.

The Tri Star 2&3 groups raced the same distance as the adults, a 150m pool swim, 4km bike ride and 2km run.

Overall winner was Myles Taylor in 20:59, with first girl Catherine …in 26:16.

23 adults contested the main race, with the winning time posted by Boxford CC’s Simon Daniel in 20:18.

Junior Triathlon

Norwich First and Second for Charlie and Stuart.

Not to be outdone by their senior clubmates, West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club’s junior members thoroughly enjoyed the Norwich Junior triathlon on Sunday.

In the Tri Star 1 category (9 & 10 years 150m swim, 2km bike ride and 1200m run), Wheelers recorded a superb top 2 finishers with Charlie Knowler 1st in 14:09 (2:51, T1 00:38, 5:09, T2 00:18, 5:10) and Stuart Adam 2nd in 14:20 (3:00, T1 00:41, 5:09, T2 00:28, 5:00).

Basildon Triathlon

Eight club juniors participated in the East Essex Kids Triathlon at Basildon Sporting Village on Saturday. Fortunately the forecasted deluge cleared early to make for a fine afternoon.

Jennifer Adam and Annalise Verzijl performed well in the Tristar 2 race (age 11 - 12) with Jennifer finishing 20th girl and Annalise 23rd girl. A sparkling first on the bike helped Charlie Knowler to finish 2nd boy and 2nd overall in a hotly contested Tristar 1 race (age 9 -10). Stu Adam, Tommy Verzijl and Jacob Taylor all put up super performances moving up to Tristar 1 this year, with Stu finishing 9th boy, Tommy 17th boy and Jacob, taking part in his first event, 31st boy. Hugo Thorneley and Thomas Curtis, also Tristar 1, both did well in their first triathlon, with Hugo overcoming bike racking problems to finish 21st boy and Thomas 24th boy.

Weekend Triathlon & Duathlon Round up

Weekends Triathlon round up.

Fellow club members in action this weekend were Pip Moore, Lesley Linden & Mandy Bunn at the Nottingham Triathlon which saw a big field of 826 tackle the sprint distance triathlon of 750m open water swim, 20k bike & 5k run. The whole event took place at the national water sports center Nottingham. Pip came a commendable 57th overall and a impressive 5th in his age group of 83 in an overall time of 1:01:12.  Mandy's overall time saw her stop the clock at 1:17:31 and Lesley in 1:34:05

In the Beccles Sprint Triathlon, Sharon Perry took to spot in her age group and 2nd lady in overall, adding to her impressive form last season which saw her gain GB age group representation.

Further afield at the Garmin Eton Super Sprint Triathlon at Eton Dorney, venue for the Olympic rowing. Another of our age groupers Alice Maguire took top spot in the Junior 17-18 ag finishing the 400m swim, 21.2k bike & 5k run in 1:14:23.

Last but certainly not least Angela Joiner Handy made the trip to Pontevedra in north west Spain for the World Duathlon Championships, despite suffering a mechanical on the bike Angela finished 6th, looking at the times of 6th, 5th,4th,& 3rd it was close for the bronze.
