St Edmunds Wheel Presentation ~ we nominate Friends of Priory School
The Annual Presentation of awards for the 2010 St Edmunds Wheel Charity event took place on Thursday at the Denny Bros Conference Centre. This event, previously known as the Bury Bike Ride, has over the years raised a huge amount of money for local good causes. This year the organisers asked those clubs, businesses and individuals that have strongly supported the event to nominate charities and worthwhile causes to be recipients of the cheques from the proceeds of the event, totalling £20 000.
West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club nominated The Friends of Priory School and Barry Denny, representing the Club, was very pleased to pass on a cheque for £500 to Barry Eastwood, representing The Friends. This organisation helps to fund activities and equipment for the benefit of the youngsters that attend the school, which caters for those with learning difficulties, and includes cycling in their curriculum, being a life skill.
Everyone at the event sang the praises of Steve Laycock, Brian Hurrell, Ian Turner and all the team that put in such a lot of work every year.
We have had a good contingent of riders in this event in recent years, participating at all the distances from 15 to 100 miles, and I hope we will be doing so again in 2011.Put the date in your diary now, JUNE 12.
