Tear Jerker

Age Group First For Esther Colman

West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club member Esther Colman produced a superbly paced performance at the Elveden Tearjerker off road Triathlon on Sunday for a well merited 1st in age group (F17-29).

The Tearjerker is well named; a 750m open water reservoir swim followed by 25km off road mountain bike ride around the estate at Elveden and finishing with a tough 5km cross country run is billed as one of the toughest off road triathlons in the calendar.

Despite the cold and windy conditions, Esther’s swim time of 12m10s was 2nd overall (in a field of 101). Her transition 1 time of 1m 33s quickly lead to a bike ride of 1:11:08 and following a T2 time of 00:44s produced a fine 28:21 run section for a well-deserved 01:53:57 and 39th overall. The only person faster in the water was fellow club member Marc Verzijl who powered round the swim in 11:25.

Equally impressive was Chris Wiseman in the M30-39 category, who produced a swim time of 16:26, followed by a T1 of 01:18, a bike ride of 58:44, a T2 of 00:38 and run of 25:39 for an overall time of 1:42:50 and a highly commendable 11th overall.

Other results were (overall times):

Ray Reeves (18th), 1:47:51; Phil Clarke (28th) 1:50:36; Malcolm MacFarlane (32nd) 1:52:28; Marc Verzijl (41st) 1:54:46; Rob Adam (54th) 2:01:19; Julian Colman (60th) 2:04:49; Conrad Burgess (88th) 2:21:24
