Knowler Nails It !

This week young Charlie Knowler grabs the headline for his superb win in the Under 10 race at the very tough Eastern Cross League’s Mistley CycloCross event on Sunday. He made a great start and got to the front of the race on lap two, but was overhauled by Mark Lightfoot of CC Ashwell. Charlie then came back to retake the lead in the last corner to clinch his first ever CX victory. Harley Gregory again rode well to 9th place, (best Under 8), with Victoria Asker 14th and Grace Whitwell 22nd.

Matt Whitwell rode well into 21st in the Under 12’s, just ahead of Tom Macro in 23rd.

The Under 16’s tackled the full course with numerous muddy descents and climbs in the ancient woodland, Sam Asker coming out best of the West Suffolk crew in 12th (4th U14), Fraser Elsworth 22nd and Matt Asker struggling in the conditions in 30th.

In the Vets race we had no less than six riders the best of whom was Mike Bowen in 6th, with mountain bikers Paul Watson and Malcolm Macfarlane in 25th and 39th respectively, ahead of Adrian Grimwood 49th, Barry Denny 51st and Simon Elsworth 53rd.

The Seniors race was a full hour of suffering on what is probably the most demanding course in the season, with Matt Denny getting the better of his club mates John Brooks and James Asker in 51st, 54th and 55th respectively.

Incidentally it is worth noting the demographics of those representing the club at this event:

30 somethings         Nil
