Cyclo Cross - Charlie Knowler’s Fine Form Continues

Another fine race from West Suffolk Wheeler & Triathlon Club member Charlie Knowler at the Grafham Water circuit in Cambridgeshire on the 30th November saw him race powerfully to 3rd in the Under 10 category, leading home clubmates Harley Gregory (13th) and Victoria Asker (19th). In the overall rankings, Charlie sits a very commendable 6th with 3 races left in the series.

The circuit along Grafham Water is a technical and deceptively challenging course which saw the seniors and women & veteran men race along the sandy lake foreshore, before taking in some tight switchbacks and testing cambers and difficult woodland tracks.

The club’s women’s and veteran men’s contingent was led home by Mike Bowen with another strong race for 4th, followed by the ever improving Simon Elsworth (39th) with Ian Mortlock (45th), Adi Grimwood (46th), Barry Denny (50th), Darren Baker (62nd) and David Griggs (68th). Brave riding saw Lesley Linden (75th) and Nicole Gregory (76th). Richard Muchmore, racing for Revel Outdoors of Bury St. Edmunds, finished very well for 2nd in this race.

In the youth race, Sam Asker continued his rich run of form for 15th (still 2 years left in this category) with brother Matt finishing 34th. Sam will be pleased with his current standing of 7th in his age ranking. Both Max Bidewell & Fraser Elsworth withdrew with mechanical issues.

In the U12 race, Thomas Macro (21st) and Lianna Denny (34th) acquitted themselves well. Finally the hour long senior race saw Matt Denny finish 65th with James Asker 69th.
