Suffolk Winter Cross Country Round 3

Suffolk Winter Cross Country Round 3

Sunday 17th Jan : Haughley Park.

Haughley Park Cross Country

A heavy frost and cold conditions greeted our biggest XC team to date running in the third round of the Suffolk Winter Cross Country League. Our dozen experienced hands were complimented by several new members and first time XC runners giving WSW a team of 20 in the Senior race and 4 in the Juniors race, again our best number.

The sky was clear and blue by the time our four juniors lined up on the start line at 10:45. Taking a break from cyclo-cross Oliver Griggs, along with Harry Shingleton and Kali & Blake Sharman were flying the WSW flag. Over the 4km course Harry was the highest placed in 41st, with Oliver 68th and Blake Sharman 88th followed closely by sister Kali.

The Senior race started at 11am and ran for 2 laps of the course  taking in tracks, bombs holes, ditch and logs. First Wheeler in was Matt Shingleton in 22nd, with Thomas Betts 49th not too far behind. Darren Sharman ran strongly from the back of the starting line-up to finish 103. Hannah McInroy Naylor came home at 113, Chris Brownhill 125, followed by Myles Taylor, Steve Murton, James Heath, Laura Brown,  Ray Reeves, Malcolm Mcfarlane, Julian Colman, Paul Sawyer, Chris Ridgeon, Phil Clarke, Lorna Wakerill, Jan Murton, Marc Verzil, Jan Murton & Helen Samuel. Full race results will be published on the Suffolk Athletics website over the coming week.

Next up is Round 4 at Hevlingham Hall nr Bungay on 21st February is one of my personal favourites. I hope we can continue our great support and climb up the club league a little further. Several club runners are also sitting in good positions in their age groups so with two rounds to go all to race for. The Last XC of the season is 6th March Nowton Park; put both dates in your diary
