Late May 2016 Cycling Round-up

Late May 2016 Cycling Round-up

Matt Denny leads the field at RAF Woodbridge

The club's racers have been out in force this week, with Fraser Elsworth at Lotus the pick of the results.

Lotus Track Meet

Fraser Elsworth excelled at Thursday’s Lotus Closed Circuit track meet held on the Lotus cars test track at Hethel in Norfolk (26th May). Racing in the U16 event of 25 minutes duration on the 2.2 mile long course, Fraser planted himself firmly at the pointed end of the race for the duration, and was justly rewarded with a fine 2nd place with his time of 26:51 just 4 seconds off the eventual winner.

The gloss was taken off Malcolm Borg's excellent high finish in the 4th cat race when an anticipated 6th place was cancelled out. Transponder "issues" meant that no laps were recorded and he registered a disappointing DNF.

RAF Woodbridge Circuit Race Series

Meanwhile, Saturday 28th saw a quintet of the club’s senior racers in action at the RAF Woodbridge Circuit Race series, held at the RAF base.

All 5, Matt Denny, Matt Eaglen, Scott Williams, Stu Grand and Stephen Palmer, faced off 52 other racers in the hour long 4th category event.

Matt Denny produced the goods, and tapping out a consistent rhythm  powered over the line to finish in 14th. He will certainly look forward with confidence to the rest of the season’s racing. Matt Eaglen had a fine race, finishing in 40th with Scott Williams carrying on from his debut season cyclo racing racing to place 47th. Mechanical issues meant unscheduled early finishes for fellow cyclo crosser Stu Grand and debutant Stephen Palmer.
