Hawstead Hill Climb - 30th Aug 07

Farrow Takes Up Hill Battle

Richard Farrow won his first race of the season, taking the West Suffolk Wheelers Evening Series Annual Hill Climb in a new event record of 2mins 23secs.

The hill used is a short climb at Pinford End and each rider makes the accent twice, with the times combined together.  First time up the hill Paul Rooke was fastest in 1:10.27secs, with Farrow less than half a second behind in 1:10.65.  In third place was Woitek Siodelski from Stowmarket Cycling Club in a time of 1:15.22.

But with riders expected to make two maximum efforts in quick succession, it is often the rider who recovers best that takes the honours.  This proved to be the case with Farrow going fastest second time up with a 1:12.62, only 2 seconds slower than his first effort, while Rooke was pushed down to second with a time of 1:17.64, giving him a combined time of 2:27.91.

Although Siodelski was also only 2 seconds slower than his first attempt, Dale Sturman moved up to third place with near exact times for both climbs, 1:16.43 and 1:16.11 respectively.
