Bruce Edgar - National Champion
Monday, 28 April 2003 00:00 | Written by Ian Pettitt
After finishing 8th in the pusuit and 6th in the Points race at the National Junior Track Champs at Manchester at the weekend, Bruce Edgar started the Scratch race in agressive mood. After several digs at the front he eventuallly broke away with one other rider, and between them they got a lap on the field! The bunch then reacted, and in a long chain gang set about chasing the lap back. Bruce had other ideas and doggedly hung on to the back of the line that was chasing him, and this continued uanabated for ten laps or more. Eventually the steam went out of the chase, and undeterred Bruce counter-attacked, and got another lap !!!
Not only a Gold Medal for his superb efforts but also the first time for many years that the championship was won by a two lap margin !
We all knew he had it in him. Those attending the Bungay Crits on Monday will have the chance of congratulating him personally, as he has entered, despite plans to ride in a National Road Race the day before!
