This is a friendly lake with excellent staff. Simon Edward and his family run the swimming and he is always on hand to help with any queries. Constant monitoring of swimmers takes place with boats out on the lake and Simon is on hand to give basic instruction and technique. He does run courses – please see the website at: http:// info@activeoutdoorsport.co.uk Tel: Office: 01603 446620, Simon Edwards: 07962 430136.
Wet suits are notorious for being difficult to get in to. Talcum powder and plastic bags over feet and hands help they also help with buoyancy and swimming in them is different.
Entry to the water is s l o w l y to enable the body to adapt to the water temperature – feet first then knees, thighs, lower trunk, chest, shoulders, head and face.
Follow the buoys round the course – they are marked 200 metre practise swims, with a 400m and 750m course (doubled for 1 mile).
