Cyclo Cross - Charlie Knowler’s Fine Form Continues

Another fine race from West Suffolk Wheeler & Triathlon Club member Charlie Knowler at the Grafham Water circuit in Cambridgeshire on the 30th November saw him race powerfully to 3rd in the Under 10 category, leading home clubmates Harley Gregory (13th) and Victoria Asker (19th). In the overall rankings, Charlie sits a very commendable 6th with 3 races left in the series.

The circuit along Grafham Water is a technical and deceptively challenging course which saw the seniors and women & veteran men race along the sandy lake foreshore, before taking in some tight switchbacks and testing cambers and difficult woodland tracks.

The club’s women’s and veteran men’s contingent was led home by Mike Bowen with another strong race for 4th, followed by the ever improving Simon Elsworth (39th) with Ian Mortlock (45th), Adi Grimwood (46th), Barry Denny (50th), Darren Baker (62nd) and David Griggs (68th). Brave riding saw Lesley Linden (75th) and Nicole Gregory (76th). Richard Muchmore, racing for Revel Outdoors of Bury St. Edmunds, finished very well for 2nd in this race.

In the youth race, Sam Asker continued his rich run of form for 15th (still 2 years left in this category) with brother Matt finishing 34th. Sam will be pleased with his current standing of 7th in his age ranking. Both Max Bidewell & Fraser Elsworth withdrew with mechanical issues.

In the U12 race, Thomas Macro (21st) and Lianna Denny (34th) acquitted themselves well. Finally the hour long senior race saw Matt Denny finish 65th with James Asker 69th.

Charity Ride

Since I just turned 40 I have decided to mark the year and do something positive to 'give something back'!

Next June I will be cycling the 520KM from London to Paris over three days! Not content with that, I am not doing the usual charity ride but have opted for the Hot Chillee endurance event which is known as the "professional event for ameteurs". In short I will need to train very hard for the months leading up to this to have any hope of completing it! It is also partially televised on EuroSport, although I cant guarantee I will be close enough to the front to get any coverage!

In terms of the 'doing something positive' aspect, I am extremely honoured to have been awarded 1 of only 18 places on the UK Youth cycling team.

UK Youth is a charity at the heart of a national network of 39 regional youth associations and three national partners. This represents more than 5500 youth clubs and 693,000 young people, which is te largest reach of any youth organisation in the country.

In return I am committed to raising £3500 for the charity and I would be extremely grateful if you would consider sponsoring me! Please help me make a difference by making a donation to my Virgin Money Giving page.

Please subscribe to my twitter feed (@JonL2P) where I will be posting updates on my training, pics of fundraising events (including having my legs waxed......that was Mel's idea and something tells me she is really looking forward to watching it!) and a live tracking feed during the event itself.

Many thanks for your support!
