Impressive Finish from Paul Watson

12 members of West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club took part in the East & South East Regional Cyclo Cross Championships, held at a cold and windy Trinity Park Ipswich on the 8th December.

On a largely fast and flat course surrounding a more technical middle section which better suited the quicker riders, the stand out performance of the afternoon for the club was Paul Watson racing in the male vets 50-59 age category who finished impressively for 8th

Determined riding in the same race saw Barry Denny home in 28th and Darren Baker in 30th.

The Youth race saw Sam Asker home in 12th, and more fine riding saw Tom Macro 6th in the U12 and Charlie Knowler 10th (U10).

6 members contested the Male vets 40--49 category, Mike Bowen finishing in 24th and aggressive racing from club mates Matt Denny and Ian Mortlock saw Matt edge out Ian by 1 second in a sprint finish to cross the line in 58th and Ian in 59th.

Completing the group were Adi Grimwood (61st), James Asker (64th) and David Griggs (68th).

Cross Country

Elsewhere, 9 members of the club took part in the Suffolk Winter League Cross Country held at Sutton Hoo.

In very sandy and energy sapping conditions over a 5 mile course, in the senior race new member Keith Marra finished a superb 11th with Chris Mower in 47th. They were followed by Phil Clarke (103rd), Sharon Perry (110th), Julian Colman (117th) and, in a break from cyclo cross, Malcolm MacFarlane (162nd). In the combined junior race, Miles Taylor finished 42nd and Beth Singleton 59th.
