It’s been a busy week for WSW & Triathlon Club.

Monday saw a host of club riders meeting on the Angel Hill to meet with Simon Bourne and his colleagues who had ridden from Gibraltar, in honour of Luke Southgate who was recently killed in action in Afghanistan. Our riders accompanied Simon and the others to RAF Honington where there was an official reception.

Tuesday was the last Go Ride session of the summer at the Priory School and a trophy was presented to the most improved rider, a student from the school.

On Wednesday the morning run was well supported and several members raced at the Lotus Hethel League in the evening. (Results not known). We also generated good publicity in the EADT, with Donna Williams’ recent medal winning performance making the front page, and a full write-up on page three.

Thursday’s time trial was a blustery affair, won again by Brian Philips.

On Friday we took part in the Tour of Britain Bury/Colchester Stage Publicity Launch in the Abbey Gardens. A good turn out of members heard the speeches, saw the displays and generally spread the word that we are a key part of cycling in the county. A couple of members even featured in the TV coverage on the local news!

The clubroom came another significant step nearer on Saturday, when a working party created the concrete bases for the building to be erected in August. Thanks must go to all those that worked hard, namely Neville Pettitt, Adrian Grimwood, Will Newland, David Ballam, Ed Ballam, Don and Brenda Picking.

. . . and I’ve heard of some great results over the weekend too. Peter Balls won the CTT East District Time Trial Championship, and has reported a new club 25 record in a recent event, bringing it down to 50.12. On Saturday Alan Trolove rode at Hogg Hill and when one rider from the leading group of four made a bid for victory on the last hill, Alan counter-attacked, caught him on the line, and got the verdict in a photo-finish! He followed that with a second place in a MTB race in Essex on Sunday. Steve Newman contested the BC Masters Road Race in Essex, and was pleased with 15th place in the 50+ group, in a race marred by a serious equestrian incident, in which three horses bolted in fear of the cyclists.

It’s also good to hear that all four club runs over the weekend were well supported ~ overall a really good week for the club.
