I've recently received a disc from East Grinstead CC containing around 250 pictures from this year's Cronosquadre della Versilia Michele Bartoli team time trial, in which a team from the club competed in honour of their club-mate, Brian Phillips, who tragically died whilst taking part in last year's event.  

As you know Brian was also a member of the West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club, and as a gesture of support to the East Grinstead team, the club decided to donate the money raised through entry fees and refreshments from this year's Suffolk Punch to help them fund their trip. A total of £300 was raised.  

The team turned in a very good performance finishing 20th out of the 172 teams. Mind you, having such a great champion as Michele Bartoli guesting in their team may have motivated them a little!   The occasion must have been a very emotional experience for the team and for Brian's family who also travelled to the event.

Brian's good friend, Sean Yates, joined the group the day before the race and was able to accompany them for a ride and evening meal. And no doubt some inspirational team talk.   East Grinstead CC sends its grateful thanks for the donation and kindest regards to all members of our club.   I have edited the pictures down and loaded them on to this Picasa album.
