Gold Winning Performance for Wheeler Julian Long

West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club members enjoyed some tremendous success in recent triathlons, stand out performance came from Julian Long who led the strong contingent of Wheelers contesting the Wattisham Triathlon on Sunday.

Consisting of a 300m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run, Julian’s times of 6min 49secs, 34:08 and 18:27 for an overall time of 00:59:24 was rewarded with 1st place.

Other Wheelers’ results were as follows:

Darren Sharman 11th 1:01:23 (6:11, 34:32, 20:39); Esther Colman 22nd 1:03:11 (4:55, 37:25, 20:49); Julian Colman 62nd 1:08:25 (7:31, 38:56, 21:57); David Leaver 86th 1:11:34 (8:36, 39:03, 25:53); Lyndon Houston 91st 1:12:08 (7:21, 40:37, 24;09); Conrad Burgess 143rd 1:16:50 (5:38, 43:23, 27:48); Stephen Bull 156th 1:18:32 (7:24, 42:03, 29:03); Jill Wilshaw 164th 1:19:21 (8:14, 45:22, 25:44); Dawn DaMarco 165th 1:19:22 (7:51, 44:32, 26:57).

Fritton Lake was the venue for the Fritton Lake Sprint triathlon on Saturday, a 750m swim followed by a 20km bike ride and finished by a 5km run.

Leading home the Wheelers ladies duo in 35th position and 2nd lady was Hannah McInroy Naylor in 1:15:53 (13:47, T1 2:02, 37:39, T2 00:29, 21:55) followed by Sharon Perry 3rd lady and 47th in 1:17:18 (11:49, T1 1:45, 40:20, T2 00:28 23:04).

The lake also hosted Sunday’s Olympic distance triathlon, a 1500m swim, 40Km bike ride and 10km run.

Keith Marra enjoyed his race and finished well in 2; 10:24 for 6th overall (24:47, T1 1:43, 1:04:43, T2 00:27, 38:42). Club mate Ray will be pleased with his time posted of 2:24:38 for 31st (30:20, T1 1:26, 1:10:04, T2 00:35, 41:34).

  • The West Suffolk Wheelers cycling club was formed in 1922 and is based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We have a good cross-section of cycling on offer to welcome new and experienced cyclists alike. If you wish to learn bike handling skills for on and/or off-road cycling our members have the knowledge and experience to teach you. The Club is proud of it's development work with young people, and we have coaches to guide new cyclists in their training.
