Team Win for Alan Trolove and the BC Eastern Region

West Suffolk Wheelers’ Alan Trolove represented British Cycling’s Eastern Region in the Youth Tour of Mayo in Eire last weekend. The event for all Youth categories comprised four stages over three days, including two road stages, a time trial and a closed road Criterium, all run on an aggregate time basis, with awards for teams, individual stage winners, king of the mountains, points winner and General Classification overall.

Ron is one of the Region’s top Veteran Time Trialler’s and has a whole lifetime of experience of cycle racing at the highest level. He rides quicker in his 70’s than most can ride in their 30’s! He has agreed to pass on some of his knowledge by giving this talk, aimed at those new to Time Trialling, those wanting to progress from club events to Opens, and Triathletes who want to improve at this discipline.

He aims to go from the basics of filling in entry forms, to kit and equipment, basic training needs and riding techniques.

It’s great that participation in cycling is booming and that the membership of the Wheelers keeps growing. Many people are drawn to cycling for a whole mixture of reasons and our membership now spans a very wide range of ability, age, aspirations, and areas of interest.

Almost all of those members could have a go at competitive cycling if they wanted to and this applies to juvenile as well as adult members. Of course, many chose not to, and the huge growth in Sportive rides bears witness to the large number who prefer the ‘challenge’ rather than the ‘race’. But for those that would like to have a go at competitive riding I have compiled this simple guide.

The sun shone on West Suffolk Wheelers Grass Track Cycle Races, held on Sunday in Bury St Edmunds. The full programme at Priory School playing field incorporated a round of British Cycling's Eastern Region Championship.

Farrow Takes Third At ECCA

After a disappointing start to the road racing season with only a 12^th place to show for his efforts, West Suffolk Wheelers Richard Farrow finally found some form to take third place in the ECCA Regional ‘B’ Road Race on 6^th May.
