Tom Mills wins Collard Shield and Richard Farrow tops TT series points total

The 2013 West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Evening Time Trial Series points competition was won by Richard Farrow, with a 161 points cushion over Lee Sturman in 2nd place. Boyd Nicolas finished just behind with his 250 points total securing 3rd place.

Tom Mills claimed 1st place in the Collard Shield, for the most improved rider in the series. Points are scored for setting course and distance personal bests as well as starting and completing events. In a very close competition, Jim Greenwood and Lewis Elson finished 2nd and 3rd place, with only 15 points covering the top three positions.

Norwich ABC 10mile TT 7/9/13

Three WSW and Tri club members took part in the Norwich ANC 10mile time trial. John Steed's time is tbc, Mark Eastwood did a 26.01 and David Young did a 25.55. Winning the event was Daniel Bloy from Kings Lynn CC with a 20.49.

Kent CA 12 hour - Calton sets women's Club Record

On Sunday September 1st Sharon Calton and Dale Sturman travelled to Kent to compete in the Kent Cycle Association 12 hour Time Trial

Having targeted the event at the start of the year, Sharon was looking to claim a Women's Club Record at the distance and all her training was geared around distance rides and so was in good shape to turn in a good performance.

Hill Climb: Lee Sturman wins final round of Evening TT Series

Lee Sturman won the final round of the club Evening Time Trial series. His final time of 2:12:87 for the combined two accents of the climb was 2 seconds quicker than Tom Smith (2:14:54) and 10 seconds faster that Richard Farrow, who finished in third (2:22:42).

Bury Parkrun #8

117 runners took part in the 8th Bury Parkrun (17-08-13), including three competitors from WSW & Tri.

Highest finisher was Julian Long in 7th place, breaking the 19 minute barrier in his first Bury Parkrun. His 18:54 is the fastest time set by a WSW & Tri member so far. Graham Gidney finished in 26th place with 21:44 and Lyndon Houghton recorded 25:35 in his first Parkrun to finish in 69th place.

The full results were available the same day on the website. For anyone who is interested in taking part, the events are free and there is no need to enter in advance, just turn up and run. However, you must register on the website before the event to get your barcode, which is scanned when finishing the event to match your time to you. When registering, please select West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club as you team/club, then your results will appear on our club results page.

  • The West Suffolk Wheelers cycling club was formed in 1922 and is based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We have a good cross-section of cycling on offer to welcome new and experienced cyclists alike.
