West Suffolk Ironmen

Well done to Aiden Dunn and Lee French who completed their first Ironman events at the Offical IM Bolton event over a course of 24.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike & 26.2 mile run both West Suffolk men finishing together in 12 hours 49mins over the tough course.

Grass Track 2013

On Saturday 3rd August 2013 West Suffolk Wheelers & Tri Club promoted their Grass Track event incorporating the National Endurance and Short Distance League. This was held at Fornham All Saints Community Centre field just outside Bury St Edmunds.

29 riders took part in the event on fixed wheel bikes and also some youngsters rode a few freewheel events.

The  event started with a 2 lap sprint which placed the 10 adult riders in the heats, Andrew leveton was 3rd in heat 1 which put him into the repecharge and got through to the final after winning this.

The National 800m was won be Lewis Meadows from Cottingham Coureurs RT, 2nd was Rowan Elliott and 3rd was Andrew Leveton both from VC St Raphael.

In the 8km scratch Joe Clarke from Fenland Clarion went for an early breakaway and got half a lap, but eventually the group pulled him back in. When the bunch caught him Graham Collins from Ipswich BC went off and lapped the whole field and took a brilliant win.

In the Senior Devil  Joe Clarke from Fenland clarion was 3rd, 2nd was Rowan Elliott and with a 2nd win was Graham Collins from Ipswich BC.

In the  win and out event which is whoever wins the first lap wins the race and pulls out and so on.  In 3rd place was Rowan Elliott, 2nd Lewis Meadows and winning it was Andrew Leveton.

The youngster fixed event was an omnium. In the u16/u14 event 1st was Jake Towler from Mildenhall CC, and 2nd was Daniel King from Chelmer CC.

In the under 12 omnium Colin Mantle from Mildenhall CC was 3rd, 2nd was Josh Murad from Mildenhall CC and 1st was Sam Asker from West Suffolk Wheelers and Tri Club.

In the under 10 omnium 3rd was Zoe Swainston from Colchester Rovers, 2nd was Freddie Cooke from Ashwell CC and 1st was James Fraser from Ashwell CC.

Higham 10mile TT 1st August 2013

33 riders negotiated then tough Higham 10 mile time trial course in the latest Thursday evening event. Despite breezy conditions, many riders clocked course bests thanks mainly to the tailwind finishing section between Barrow and Higham.

Winning the event was Lee Sturman in 23.49 (25.10 mph), this gave him a 1 second margin over brother Dale Sturman. 3rd place went to current points series leader Richard Farrow 24.50, 4th went to Julian Long, fresh from his recent top 6 finish at the Culford Triathlon. He finished in 25.07. Making up the top 6 was 14 year old Harry Paine from the Essex based Glendene CC, who finished in 25.26 to claim 5th. Darren Davis with a course best was 6th in 25.56. Notable performances from Lewis Elson who improved his best time over the hilly course by 2.03, Matt Denny improved by 1.23 and newly crowned British hand cycling champion Brian Alldis improved by 33 seconds.

Mills finished 5th in Lotus #9

As the only WSW & Tri entrant in the latest round of the Lotus Circuit series, Tom Mills secured fifth place in the Go Race event.

Shingleton defends title at Culford Triathlon

There were many great performances by West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon club members in the 2013 Culford Triathlon, promoted by Ipswich Tri Club.

With three WSW & Tri members in the top 10, Matt Shingleton successfully defended his title winning in 52:55, Pip Moore finished 4th and Julian Long finished in 6th place.

There were numerous PB performances, with Phil Clarke recorded a PBto finish in 17th place (59:11). Other WSW & Tri results: Sharon Perry 55th 1:03:59, Chris Brownhill in his 1st Tri 57th 1:04:34, David Leaver 1:08:44,Rob Adam 1:09:13, Alex Hart 1:09:13, Steve Bull 1:12:30, Paul Jeremy Sawyer 1:15:54, Jill Wilshaw 1:17:45, Elliot Wells 1:18:06 & Peter Watson 1:24:45.
