Wiggle No Excuses 80 mile sportive

The club was well represented at the 80mile Wiggle No Excuses Sportive held from the Brampton Race Ground near Huntingdon on the 1st March.

Conditions were almost ideal, a fine bright and dry day with a slight south westerly breeze made for a good but challenging ride.

Top rider of the day must be young Max Bidewell who completed by far his furthest distance yet in a terrific chip time of 5:59:25, with dad James just pipping him in 5:59:23. Both earned bronze standard. Just make the most of this one, James. Don’t expect Max to forget…

In probably what was the longest ride to date this year for most club riders (including your correspondent), chip times (but actual ride times were shorter, and in no particular order) for club members were Malcolm MacFarlane 6:15:27 for bronze standard (sportingly guiding his friends around), Kim Bonnelykke who stormed round in 4:19:30 (gold), Michael Lawson 4:23:29 (gold) Guy Lesser 4:27:50 (gold), Jeremy Waterson 4:27:52 (gold), Ian Mortlock 4:32:29 (gold), Darren Aldous 4:32:33 (gold),Will Smith 5: 35:56 (silver) and who, despite the ride title of “No Excuses”, managed to find one when he forgot to turn his garmin back on following a 75 mile comfort break, and Darren Baker 4:48:35 (gold).

Apologies to other club members if anyone has been omitted; there were many hundreds of riders and I tried to look for as many red tops as possible.

The club was also well represented at the Ipswich BC reliability ride, using the south westerly wind for a spot of resistance training.
