Basildon Aquathon - Sharon Perry finishes second

Sharon Perry and Mark Verzijl competed in the Basildon Aquathon on Sunday.

Hosted by the East Essex Triathlon Club and held at Basildon Sporting Village, both Sharon and Mark raced in the veteran category which consisted of a 400m swim followed by transition to a 5km race.

Sharon produced yet another determined performance, a terrific swim time of 5:56:05 was bettered by only 3 other competitors, all men, one of which being club mate Mark. Transition time of 30:87 seconds was followed by a hard run of 23:35:44 to see her finish in a combined time of 30:02:56 and a richly deserved 2nd female and 13th veteran overall.

Mark completed his swim in 5:45:71 , his transition time of 35:53 was followed by a fine 5km of 24:39:11 for a total aggregate time of 31:00:05 and 19th veteran overall.

Diss Duathlon - Keith Marra second in age category

Ray Reeves and Keith Marra competed in the Diss Duathlon, a 5km road race followed by a 30km bike ride and then finishing with the same 5km road run.

Competing in the senior 30-39 category Keith’s run 1 was timed at 18:37 minutes, followed by Transition 1 time of 01:13, a cycle ride of 52:27 and T2 of 00:41 with run 2 of 20:51. This was enough for an aggregate time of 01:33:51 for which he was well rewarded with 2nd in his age category and 7th overall out of 134 finishers.

Club mate Ray competed in the Veteran 40-49 category, his R1 of 24:42 was followed by T1 of 00:58, a cycle ride of 00:56:19, T2 of 01:01 and R2 of 28:19 giving him an overall finish time of 01:51:22 and 53rd overall out of 134 finishers and 21st in his age category.

Stowmarket CC TT

West Suffolk Wheeler & Triathlon club member Paul Rooke continued his recent good run of form to finish a respectable 17th in the Debenham 20 mile Time Trial hosted by Stowmarket & District Cycle Club on Saturday.

Held on an open road course beginning at Debenham and taking in the lanes around Ashfield & Occold, riders faced a stiff side wind which made for a challenging return section back to Debenham.

Paul posted 49 minutes 58 seconds; 6 mins 17 seconds behind winner Mark Arnold of CC Desireagear whose time of 43:41 set a new course record some 11 seconds faster than the previous record which had stood since 2008.

Henry Wood posted 56:55 to finish 39th, just one position in front of club mate Nic Whitwell on his first time trial outing of the new season and who finished in 40th place (56:59). Gerry Barton rode well to 47th in 1:03:23.
