Kings Lynn 2-up 25m TT

Two teams featuring West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club members took part in the Kings Lynn 25mile 2 up Time Trial on Saturday.

Hosted by Kings Lynn Cycling Club, the route started at Fincham in Norfolk before each team of two riders headed south east along the A134 to Mundford. Any wind assistance on the outward leg was cancelled out by the noticeable westerly wind on the return.

A composite team comprising David Young (West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club) and Ben Micklebirgh (Bury St. Edmunds based Team VeloVelocity) nonetheless performed well and posted a respectable 1 hour 11 minutes 45 seconds for 6th.

David’s club mates Mark Eastwood and John Steed also rode well and put in a fine performance for 1:12:45 and 7th overall.

Basildon Aquathon

There was a great turn out from the club's juniors with nine taking part in the first Eastern Region league race of the season. A fantastic swim time of 3:00:09 for Niamh Perry was the second fastest in the Tristar 2 age group (age 11-12) and helped Niamh to be 7th fastest girl overall. Also in the Tristar 2 race, Jennifer Adam finished 30th girl, with sister Kathleen moving up to Tristar 2 for the first time finishing 36th and Annalise Verzijl 39th. Five boys took part in the Tristar 1 race (age 9 -10) with Charlie Knowler finishing 11th boy. A fine debut performance from Hugo Thorneley saw him finish 12th boy. Last year's Tristar Start league winner Stuart Adam and Thomas Verzijl both did very well moving up to their first race in Tristar 1 with Stuart finishing 19th boy and Thomas 21st. Thomas Curtis also making his debut finished 24th. A super team effort by everyone.

The next league event will be the Upminster Junior Aquathlon on Saturday 19 April.

Evening TT Series - 40 rider limit

All events in the Evening Time Trial Series are limited to a maximum of 40 riders per event. Entries are on a first come, first serve basis so arrive in good time to secure a ride. Signing on will close at 18:35, with the first rider starting at 18:45.

Late entries will not be allowed

To take part you will need a proper hard shell helmet, good working front and rear lights (all of which are compulsory), and the entry fee (£3.00) for members or a valid season ticket. Juniors and juveniles members are free, non CTT affiliated riders will have to wait till the end to see if there is space to get a ride.

The entry fee includes the CTT levies, which are £2.00 per rider per event. This provides the club with the relevant insurances from CTT.

Sunday Club Runs - changes to start times

From Sunday 27th April, the Sunday club rides will be returning to the two ride format. A faster (avg 18mph) ride will leave at 8:45am and a 15mph average ride will leave at 9:15am.

Helmets

Helmets are compulsory for all club cycling events and rides, including the Saturday morning training rides. No helmet, no ride!

Questionaire

Dear West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club members,

My name is Cindy Eberhardt and I’m studying International Tourism Management at Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden.

Currently, I’m writing my Bachelor's thesis which discusses to what extent the Olympic Games 2012 have influenced the travel motivation of British triathletes to visit the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final in September 2013 in London. I have been a volunteer at the Grand Final myself and therefore I am very curious to know why British triathletes have come or have not come  to London to participate in this specific triathlon event, which has taken place from September 11th - 15th.

I would greatly appreciate it, if you were able to forward this E-Mail to all other Tri club members or include it in your next newsletter. Also friends and family members are welcome to participate in my survey. It will only take 5 minutes to fill out the survey.

This is the link to my survey: https://www.esurveycreator.com/s/d4d4f0a Thank you so much in advance! And all the best for your triathlon season!

Kind regards
Cindy Eberhardt

Taking part in events

Due to many questions being asked on FB and other social media networks regarding:

  • Road racing how do I get into it ; what is required
  • Time Trials ; Track racing and Club Time Trials in the coming season
  • Where to look for races ; how to enter ; racing etiquette and also a section on youth racing

The answers to these question can be found at the Club HQ, Wednesday 16th April  at 7o’clock

I hope you all can find time to attend as this will help you get the most out of the coming year ahead, triathletes as well as cyclists
