European Handcycling - Brian 20th

Brian Alldis finished 20th in the first European Handcycling race of 2014. After a fast start and and being well positioned in the pack of 18, the pack split ahead of Brian after accelerating out of roundabout, leaving him behind with 3 others. The continued to work together throughout the rest of the event, trying to pull back people. This group managed to overtake two more riders.

Brian now has two weeks until the first World Cup in Italy, which is when the squad start earning points for the Paralympic team. The points determine how many people we can take to Rio.

Sturman brothers in course personal bests

Brothers Dale and Lee Sturman shattered their individual course records at West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club’s 7.5mile time trial course held at Horringer on the 17th April.

A host of riders also produced determined rides to shatter their own course bests on what was a windy and deceptively hilly course start taking in Chevington/Hargrave/Depden and back to Brooks corner on the A143.

Dale was quickest rider on the night, posting a powerful 16:20, followed by brother Lee in 16:24. Darren Davis was 3rd rider in 17:21 (and who bettered his previous best by over 60 seconds), 4th rider was Julian Long (17:24) and 5th Tom Smith in 17:50 (90 seconds quicker than his previous best).

Full results are available on the website.

Elsewhere, club members were also in action again in other time trials across the region on Good Friday.

Jim Greenwood posted a respectable 27:25 in the Great Yarmouth Cycle Club Open 10 mile time trial whilst at the Kings Lynn CC 10 mile time trial clubmates Richard Balaam was first Wheeler home in 27:08 (24th) followed by David young (27:16 for 25th), John Steed (28:15 and 33rd) and Mark Eastwood (29:11 and 38th).
